Engineer fluid networks with precision—master single‑phase to complex multiphase systems.

This immersive 5‑day programme equips mechanical, process, and piping engineers with essential skills to design, model, and optimise piping systems across a full range of fluid applications. Through structured theory, hands‑on workshops, and case‑based simulations, you’ll gain practical competence in flow regimes, pressure drop, material selection, and system layout for both single-phase and multiphase pipelines.

Why this course is important

  • Complex fluids demand specialist knowledge: Handling liquids, gases, slurries or multiphase mixtures requires advanced understanding of flow behaviour across regimes.
  • Save time and cost through accuracy: Correct pipe sizing, pressure drop calculation, and material choice minimise inefficiencies, maintenance needs, and system failures.
  • Ensure systems work reliably under all conditions: From design to commissioning, engineers need safe flow assurance strategies and accurate fluid modelling tools.

Who should attend

  • Mechanical, process, and piping engineers responsible for designing and managing pipeline systems
  • Project and commissioning engineers in oil & gas, petrochemical, mining, or utility industries
  • Technical consultants and HSE professionals assessing integrity and flow assurance
  • Operations and maintenance engineers seeking to optimise pumping, metering, and piping configurations

What you will learn

Across five intensive days, you’ll:

  • Understand flow dynamics – Differentiate between laminar, turbulent, single‑phase, and multiphase flow regimes
  • Calculate pressure drop – Apply Darcy‑Weisbach and Lockhart–Martinelli correlations for real-world fluid mixtures
  • Select materials & pipe classes – Choose appropriate piping based on fluid properties, temperature, and corrosion risk
  • Design for multiphase flows – Model slug, annular, bubbly, and stratified flow regimes effectively
  • Apply fluid-mechanical equations – Use Reynolds, Froude, Weber, and Eötvös numbers to predict flow behaviour
  • Size pumps and equipment – Ensure correct pump selection, NPSH calculations, and flowmeter compatibility
  • Use instrumentation drawings – Interpret and apply P&ID standards to ensure clarity in design documents
  • Build integrated piping models – Work on case studies simulating full-system layout, routing, and flow assurance
  • Mitigate flow issues – Identify risks like blockages, water hammer, and erosion; define monitoring and control strategies

What participants say

1 / 3
  • The speaker was top class. I discovered how to predict and prevent slugging in multiphase pipelines. I found the case‑study simulations with real fluid data engaging and will apply these insights in our new cathodic protection project.
    David, Project Engineer — Utilities
  • Very informative and also enjoyable. Understanding flow number applications like Reynolds and Froude made design decisions much clearer. The P&ID integration was particularly useful; I’ll use it directly in our next compressor skid package.
Amina, Piping Lead — Oil & Gas
  • A great course! The speaker was very clever and knew all about the subject. I learned how to model multiphase flow regimes and apply pressure‑drop correlations accurately. The hands‑on calculation workshops were incredibly useful, and I enjoyed the pipe‑class selection exercises. I plan to revamp our system layouts with these tools.
    Oscar, Mechanical Engineer — Petrochemical
